Many are unaware that thousands of birds die every year due to Salmonella and other bird diseases. Experts believe most get infected at dirty bird feeders and bird baths where birds congregate and can rapidly transmit to others. Unfortunately, most typically die within a day or two of their contagion.
I discovered my passion for bird watching during the Covid Pandemic during the time when everything shut down for a few months. I found I loved watching the colorful and energetic birds frolicking in my backyard (as I’m an empty nester and was working from home).
When the Salmonella Outbreak hit in the Spring 2021 killing thousands of birds on the West Coast, birding experts recommended people should take down their bird feeders until the outbreak was over.
Responsibly, I took down my feeders, but I missed my newfound friends and felt badly for my local birds scavenging for food to survive the cold of winter.
I decided I would try to find a way to both feed AND protect the birds I loved. I looked to buy a window bird feeder that would reduce the potential spread of disease but there was nothing available.
I couldn’t find anything on the market that would adequately protect birds from spreading disease. The bird feeders on the market had the following problems:
They were difficult to clean and consisted of glued-together parts so they would fall apart if you placed them in the dishwasher. The alternative is using bleach to disinfect the feeder. But the bleaching process is messy, and it would be so much easier to just be able to toss the feeder in the dishwasher and be done!
Their perches were slippery and far from the feed, so many birds would just jump in the seed which can rapidly spread disease!
Most did not have water as an option. And the ones that did, the water was right next to the seed and would get messy quickly!
So I decided to take it upon myself to design my own “Healthy window bird feeder” from scratch!
My design requirements began with the following 4 needs:
Dishwasher Safe – so it would be super easy to clean!
Clean and Separated Water – to provide a safe and sanitary water source!
A Textured Perch – placed low and close to the seed so birds stay on the perch instead of jumping in the seed
An Antimicrobial to keep it cleaner between cleanings – to reduce the growth of harmful microbes.
So I assembled a team of experts and set to work.
After about 4 months of design iterations and material research, we found success! Finally, a better bird feeder designed specifically for bird health!
It is called ClearView Deluxe Window Bird Feeder. We named it ClearView because as much importance we have in bird health, it must be attractive on the window and provides a 100% unobstructed view of your birds.
ClearView has no glued-together parts! Instead, it uses injection-molded construction to produce just 2 parts. The mounting frame has a domed roof to shed water to the water bays on the sides and acts as a physical barrier between the water and the seed.
The elegant removable tray is dishwasher safe! Since the tray is a single part, it won’t fall apart in your dishwasher which is such less hassle! We developed a patented transparent acrylic material that is chemical, and heat resistant, added UV anti-yellowing protection, and embedded an antimicrobial. We named our acrylic material NatureCare®.
We are thrilled with the outcome and have already received many fantastic reviews from our customers and an award as the Best New Bird Feeder of 2022 by Clearsightbirds. Hopefully, there are more to come as the word gets out to the birding community.

Because of the premium health design features, it costs a little more than other cheap feeders on the market. However, because of the injection mold process and the anti-yellowing properties, it should last 2-3X longer than other feeders that have to be replaced every season. So ultimately it is a better investment.
